Will I Ever Know
/Will I ever know
how deep you go
when your memories of my life
can take you back to times and places
hidden from myself sight?
When you clothed and fed
and nourished me
and raised me up when I fell,
and asked yourself so many times
if I would turn out well?
But if we could say what love is
or live it in our hearts,
we would know that growing up
never stops once it starts.
Will you ever know
how deep I go
when all the years gone by
have taken me so far away
and I never told you why?
Now I live alone
and I am on my own
and I feel that it’s alright.
And what I do
comes back to you
as a measure of your life.
But if we could say what love is
or live it in our hearts,
we would know that growing up
never stops once it starts.
June 5 is Mom’s birthday. She would have been 90 today. I wrote this song for her around 1983 and it was scored to music by a friend of mine. I believed I had given it to her at the time. But I wonder now if I did so because I found the original score in my mementos during the KonMarie process, not in the mementos my mother kept that I had given her.
